Why Outboard jack plates are important while boating?

If you scull regularly, then this blog post just became a must-read.

Lots of people row sculls without an outboard jack plate.

Well, let me tell you what does it do?

Outboard jack plates  are add-on brackets that provide two extra adjustability dimensions to the outboard engine trim. Both straight up and down.

The outboard jack plate helps with several significant functions:

  • It helps you to run in shallower water than a standard engine mount.
  • If you want the best performance from an engine, an outboard jack plate can afford you better fuel economy.
  • It allows you to get up on plane in not-so-deep water than a standard engine mount.

Now, what happens without an outboard jack plate?

Imagine you’re in shallow water, if you know, your propeller represents the deepest part of your boat. Whether you’re already running on the plane or need to get up on plane, your likely deterrent stems from the prop.

When you are ready to throttle up in shallow water without an outboard jack plate, it will trim the tabs all the way down, turning the wheel hard over and jamming the throttles.

Simply trimming up the drive hinders the engine performance, as it alters the direction of your propellers’ thrust to an inefficient angle. So, to solve it or shallow up your prop is to lift them straight up rather than tilting them. Mounting outboard jack plate to the transom of the boat allows you to lift your engine vertically.

Using outboard jack plate benefits you in such ways:
  • Better Gas Mileage
  • Makes Planning easier

So, don’t take outboard jack plate lightly as it is serious stuff for your boat.
